FAQ's
What are the qualification criteria for an individual scholarship?
We are supportive of families that lack sufficient resources to pay for club swimming. Our qualification criteria include, but are not limited to, following the most recent U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program Estimated State Median Income by Household Size as guidelines to determine qualification for a scholarship (found HERE). To qualify for a full scholarship, you must make less than 60% of the estimated median income by household size for the state of California. To qualify for a partial scholarship (50% of the cost), you must make less than the estimated median income by household size for the state of California. South Orange County Aquatics reserves the right to make exceptions to eligibility guidelines for reasonable and extenuating circumstances.
Are their limitations for individual scholarships?
-
A Scholarship Term lasts 90 days. A family may apply up to 4 times per year for each child interested in joining our swim club.
-
South Orange County Aquatics reserves the right to cap total annual scholarship distributions to $3500 per family for a fiscal year (Jan-Dec). An application is required for each scholarship and for each child.
-
Confidential scholarship applications are addressed on a needs and first-come, first-served basis as funds are available.
What can I expect during the scholarship application process?
The first step is to fill out the Apply For A Scholarship form found on this page. You will fill out some basic information, and an administrative member from South Orange County Aquatics will evaluate your initial information and contact you to let you know if we need more information, if your family doesn’t qualify or if we can’t fund your scholarship at that time. If the initial evaluation indicates you are a potential candidate for a scholarship, we will then send you a scholarship application, which will also include requirements for income verification documents. You will submit the application back to us, and we will review the application. We will then contact you to let you know the outcome of the review.
How far in advance do I need to apply for a scholarship?
While we will make every effort to review scholarships on short notice, we generally require scholarship applications to be submitted at least 30 days prior to the start date.
